On Wednesday,
June 20th, hear from revolutionary journalist and KPFK
radio host
Michael Slate*, communist and ex-prisoner Clyde Young, and
other L.A.
volunteers who recently returned from the BAsics Bus Tour.
The BAsics
Bus Tour kicked off in Atlanta in mid-May, traveling through
parts of
the South and into Sanford, Florida, the city where Trayvon
Martin was
murdered, bringing the work and vision of Bob Avakian
and his book
BAsics everywhere it went.
"No more
generations of our youth, here and all around the world,
whose life is
over, whose fate has been sealed, who have been
condemned to an early
death or a life of misery and brutality, whom
the system has destined
for oppression and oblivion even before
they are born. I say no more of
that."
Bob Avakian, Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party, BAsics 1:13
The BAsics Bus
Tour brought this quote everywhere it stopped, and
hundreds of people
along the route and all over the country signed
English and Spanish
banners of this quote, standing with the people
of Sanford. A collage of
pictures of these signings was passed out in
Sanford, where the bus
tour volunteers marched through town and
together with people there
spoke out powerfully in front of the Sanford
police station.
The BAsics Bus Tour went into some of the most downpressed
neighborhoods in Georgia and Florida where there is deep outrage
and
hurt and anger that a generation of Black youth is being treated
as "a
generation of suspects." The bus tour volunteers introduced
people to
the book BAsics and the work and vision of Bob Avakian,
the leader who
has opened up the pathway of revolution to end these
outrages and the
whole system that is causing them. And everywhere
the bus tour went it
brought people into the movement for revolution.
On June 20th hear
about what happened on this bus tour, the voices
of the people who
encountered this tour, what was accomplished
through it, and the lessons
for moving forward to build the movement
for revolution. And be part of
taking this experience higher: supporting,
donating, and volunteering
for the next leg of the BAsics Bus Tour
taking off in July.
